Lust kills; It kills slowly.
Recently I finished reading a Tamil novel, MOGAMUL by Thi. Janakiraman.
It left me wondering for a very long time. This novel deals mainly with the theme Unfulfilled Lust. It can drive a person to any extremes.
Usually we associate Mogam(lust) for a short duration. A famous Tamil saying goes in the following manner: Lust is only for a month. Then it can be not that interesting. But this novel talks of Mogam for thirty years.
The novel also tells a unique truth: Mogam has to be fed and only then one's life would move ahead. Or else the life will still move ahead, but it would be punctuated with dissatisfactions and disinteretedness.
One more truth found in the novel: Mogam is a feeling that is not divisive. It might arise in any person. And to whom the Mogam is directed may be any body even a person who is very elder. Age and caste do not matter. And the Mogam can be fulfilled only by that person to whom it was directed.
Moga mul kuththinal athu edukkappada vendum. Or else the pain will be perennial.
